Call for Mural Artists: City of Chicago Heights Mural Project
The City of Chicago Heights is looking for a mural artist to design and paint a site specific mural across the street from Union Street Gallery at 1526 Otto Blvd, Chicago Heights, Illinois. This project is part of an effort to bring vibrant public art to the Chicago Heights community.
We are looking for bold, creative ideas that reflect the spirit of community without the use of detailed portraiture. Abstract work, nature, silhouettes of people, or other imaginative interpretations are encouraged. Artists are invited to bring their unique perspectives and styles to their proposals.
Mural Location & Dimensions
The mural will be painted directly onto three boarded window panels. The panels measure:
- Panel 1: 111” x 202”
- Panel 2: 109” x 145” with an attached panel (32” x 43”)
- Panel 3: 109” x 162” with an attached panel (33” x 41”)
Artists are encouraged to consider how the three panels can work together as one visual composition or as a cohesive series.

Budget
A total of $7,500 will be paid to the selected artist. Payment will be distributed as follows:
- $2,500 after contract execution and submission of a W-9 (covers design and materials)
- $5,000 upon completion of the mural
Support Provided
- Surface prep and priming will be completed by the City. Artists may request a specific type of primer.
- Equipment (ladders, scaffolding, lifts, etc.) must be provided by the artist. The mural will be on the building's first story.
Submission Requirements
Applicants must submit the following via this form:
- A short artist statement and bio (1-2 paragraphs)
- A brief proposal outlining your concept (250 words max)
- A resume or CV of past experiences and/or training
- A description of your background with mural art.
- 2–5 images of past mural or large-scale artwork
- Up to 2 sketches or preliminary ideas for the proposed mural
Eligibility
This opportunity is open to artists aged 20 and older.
